Need a hand? Routa is built to work offline and keep your data on your device. These guides cover the most common questions — sensors, subscriptions, backups, and troubleshooting. If you can't find what you need, email us and we'll help.
01Getting Started
Routa works on iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and Android, with companion apps for iOS, and Android. To start your first ride:
- Download Routa from the App Store or Google Play — a 1-month free trial is included, no account required to begin.
- Open the app and step through the initial setup to enter your FTP and body weight. These set your training zones and power targets.
- Pick a workout from the library or build your own, then press start. You can ride indoors on a smart trainer or outdoors with live GPS navigation.
Everything you record is stored locally on your device by default, so it works even without a connection.
02Pairing Sensors and Smart Trainers
Routa connects to power meters, heart-rate monitors, cadence and speed sensors, and smart trainers over Bluetooth. To pair a device:
- Go to Sensors from the ride screen or Profile and tap Add sensor.
- Wake your sensor or smart trainer so it broadcasts, then select it from the list.
- Once paired, Routa remembers the sensor and reconnects automatically on future rides.
For indoor rides, your smart trainer's resistance follows the route in SIM mode or holds a fixed wattage in ERG mode for structured intervals.
03Subscriptions and Billing
Routa includes a 1-month free trial. After the trial, a subscription unlocks the full app across your devices.
- Start a trial: open Profile → Subscribe. No charge until the trial ends.
- Manage or cancel: subscriptions are billed by the App Store or Google Play. Cancel at any time from your device's subscription settings — you'll keep access until the end of the current period.
- Restore purchases: tap Restore on the subscription screen to re-enable your entitlement on a new or reinstalled device.
Subscription entitlements are managed by RevenueCat so they sync across your devices. See the Privacy Policy for how that data is handled.
04Data Backup and Sync
Your training data lives on your device by default. To keep it safe or move it between devices:
- Local backup: export a backup file from Profile → Backup and store or share it yourself.
- Cloud sync: optionally back up to iCloud (via CloudKit) or Google Drive. Cloud sync is off until you turn it on.
- Import rides: bring outdoor rides inside by importing FIT files — analyze them or re-ride them on the trainer or outdoors.
You can disconnect any cloud integration at any time from the Profile screen.
05Troubleshooting
If something isn't working as expected, try these steps first:
- Sensor won't connect: make sure the sensor is awake and not paired to another app in the background, then re-pair it from Sensors.
- Map tiles won't load outdoors: download maps for offline use ahead of time, or check your connection. Live maps require a data connection.
- App feels slow or crashes: close other apps and restart Routa. Ensure you're on the latest version from the App Store or Google Play.
- Missing subscription: tap Restore on the subscription screen with the same account you used to subscribe. If you subscribed through a different store provider, sign in with your Google or Apple account on the paywall.
Optional analytics and crash reports are off by default. If you'd like to help us diagnose an issue, you can enable them under Profile → Support.
06Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an account? No. You can start riding right away. An account is only needed for optional cloud sync and cross-device subscription entitlement.
Is my data private? Yes. Routa is local-first — your rides, workouts, and metrics stay on your device unless you choose to back them up. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Does it work offline? Yes. Workouts, plans, and analytics all work without a connection. For outdoor navigation, download maps ahead of time.
Which platforms are supported? iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and Android today, with companion apps for iOS, and Android. A phone companion can pair with the desktop app to control rides and show live metrics. Desktop apps for Windows and Linux (Ubuntu) are in the works.
